Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are one of the oldest and most historic franchises in the National Football League. The organization was founded in 1920 as the Decatur Staleys, moved to Chicago in 1921, and became the Chicago Bears in 1922. The Bears have proudly carried the Chicago Bears name for more than a century, creating one of the deepest traditions in professional football.

The Bears have won nine NFL world championships, including eight NFL Championships before the Super Bowl era and Super Bowl XX following the 1985 season. Chicago's championship teams include the legendary squads of George Halas, the dominant 1940s Bears, the championship teams of the 1950s and 1960s, and the unforgettable 1985 Bears. The 1985 team finished 15-1 in the regular season and became one of the most dominant championship teams in NFL history.

Chicago Bears history is filled with legendary players. Founder and longtime head coach George Halas helped build the franchise, while Red Grange, Bronko Nagurski, Sid Luckman and Bill George became icons of the early Bears. Later generations produced unforgettable stars such as Gale Sayers, Dick Butkus, Walter Payton and Mike Singletary. The legendary 1985 defense featured players including Richard Dent, Dan Hampton, Steve McMichael and Mike Singletary, while later eras added stars such as Brian Urlacher, Devin Hester and many more.

The Bears have officially retired 14 jersey numbers: #3 Bronko Nagurski, #5 George McAfee, #7 George Halas, #28 Willie Galimore, #34 Walter Payton, #40 Gale Sayers, #41 Brian Piccolo, #42 Sid Luckman, #51 Dick Butkus, #56 Bill Hewitt, #61 Bill George, #66 Clyde "Bulldog" Turner, #77 Red Grange, and #89 Mike Ditka.
