Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers were founded in 1933 by Art Rooney Sr. The franchise originally played as the Pittsburgh Pirates before officially becoming the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1940.
The franchise's history also includes two temporary World War II-era combinations. In 1943, the Steelers merged with the Philadelphia Eagles to form the Philadelphia-Pittsburgh Steagles. In 1944, they combined with the Chicago Cardinals as Card-Pitt. These were one-season wartime teams rather than permanent franchise names.
The Steelers have won 6 Super Bowl Championships, after the 1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 2005 and 2008 seasons. Their legendary championship eras produced stars such as Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Joe Greene, Jack Lambert, Jack Ham, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Hines Ward, Ben Roethlisberger and many others.

Ernie Stautner was the first player in Steelers history to have his number retired. Joe Greene became the second, followed by Franco Harris in 2022. These three numbers represent important chapters in Steelers history, from the early years of the franchise to the championship "Steel Curtain" era.
The Steelers also honor many legendary players, coaches and contributors through the Steelers Hall of Honor, including numerous stars from the championship teams of the 1970s and later generations.
