Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons began play in 1966 as an expansion franchise and have proudly carried the Atlanta Falcons name throughout their history. As Atlanta's first NFL franchise, the Falcons have built a distinctive football identity over more than half a century, producing memorable players, exciting offenses, dominant defenders, and several memorable playoff runs.

The Falcons have won two NFC Championships, reaching the Super Bowl after the 1998 and 2016 seasons. Atlanta advanced to Super Bowl XXXIII following the 1998 season and returned to the Super Bowl in the unforgettable 2016 season after putting together one of the most explosive offenses in franchise history. The Falcons have not yet won a Super Bowl Championship, but both championship seasons remain important chapters in Atlanta football history.

Falcons history is filled with legendary players. Quarterback Steve Bartkowski became one of the defining stars of the franchise's early years, while running back William Andrews and offensive tackle Mike Kenn helped establish Atlanta's identity in the 1970s and 1980s. The great 1990s teams featured stars such as Deion Sanders, Andre Rison and Jessie Tuggle. Later generations produced unforgettable players including Jamal Anderson, Michael Vick, Roddy White, Julio Jones, Matt Ryan, Tony Gonzalez, John Abraham and Grady Jarrett.

The Falcons have never officially retired a jersey number. Instead, the organization recognizes its greatest players through the Atlanta Falcons Ring of Honor. Members include Steve Bartkowski, William Andrews, Jessie Tuggle, Mike Kenn, Deion Sanders, Claude Humphrey, Andre Rison, Morten Andersen, Michael Vick, Julio Jones, Roddy White and Matt Ryan, along with other important figures in franchise history. In 2026, John Abraham and Bill Fralic are scheduled to become the 15th and 16th members of the Ring of Honor.
