Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts trace their history to the Baltimore Colts, who began play in Baltimore in 1953 after the NFL granted the franchise to owner Carroll Rosenbloom. The team remained in Baltimore until 1984, when Robert Irsay moved the franchise to Indianapolis. From Baltimore to Indianapolis, the Colts have built one of the richest histories in professional football, with the same iconic horseshoe becoming a symbol recognized across generations of fans.

The Colts have won four world championships. Baltimore captured the NFL Championship in 1958 and 1959, then won the franchise's first Super Bowl in the 1970 season by defeating the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl V. After moving to Indianapolis, the Colts reached their next great era under quarterback Peyton Manning, winning Super Bowl XLI following the 2006 season and bringing the franchise its fourth world championship.

Colts history is filled with legendary players from both Baltimore and Indianapolis. Johnny Unitas became one of the most iconic quarterbacks in NFL history, while Raymond Berry, Lenny Moore, Jim Parker, Gino Marchetti and Art Donovan helped establish the dominant Colts teams of the 1950s and 1960s. In the Indianapolis era, Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James and Dwight Freeney became central figures in one of the NFL's most successful stretches of the 2000s. The Colts have officially retired eight jersey numbers: #18 Peyton Manning, #82 Raymond Berry, #70 Art Donovan, #89 Gino Marchetti, #24 Lenny Moore, #77 Jim Parker, #19 Johnny Unitas, and #22 Buddy Young. These retired numbers span both the Baltimore and Indianapolis eras and represent some of the most important players in franchise history. The Colts Ring of Honor also recognizes many legendary players, coaches and contributors who helped shape the organization.
