  Washington State...

  The Washington State Cougars represent Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, and have one of the longest football traditions in the Pacific Northwest. Washington State football dates back to the late 19th century, giving the Cougars more than a century of college football history. Known affectionately as the Cougs, the program has built a distinctive identity around its crimson and gray colors, passionate fan base, and historic rivalry with the Washington Huskies.

  Washington State has produced many memorable teams throughout its long history. One of the earliest highlights came in 1915, when the Cougars finished a perfect 7-0 season and defeated Brown 14-0 in the Rose Bowl. Decades later, Washington State returned to the national spotlight during the 1990s. The 1997 Cougars went 10-2, shared the Pacific-10 Conference championship, and earned a place in the 1998 Rose Bowl, where they faced eventual national champion Michigan.

  The Cougars have produced a remarkable list of football legends. Mel Hein, one of the greatest centers in football history, became a consensus All-American at Washington State before a legendary career with the New York Giants. Quarterback Jack Thompson, known as the “Throwin' Samoan,” became one of the most prolific passers in college football during the 1970s. Hein was the first Cougar football player to have his number retired, while Thompson became the second.   Boise State Broncos...

  The Boise State Broncos represent Boise State University in Boise, Idaho, and have developed one of the most recognizable brands in modern college football. The program began in 1933 as Boise Junior College and gradually moved through different levels of college football before reaching NCAA Division I-A (FBS) in 1996. Today, Boise State is famous for its blue playing surface at Albertsons Stadium, its distinctive blue and orange colors, and a winning tradition that has made the Broncos a national name.

  Boise State won the 1980 NCAA Division I-AA National Championship and later established itself as one of the most successful non-power programs in the FBS era. The Broncos went undefeated in 2006 and 2009, producing two of the most memorable seasons in school history. Boise State defeated Oklahoma in the dramatic 2007 Fiesta Bowl and later defeated TCU in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl, becoming the first non-BCS school to win two BCS games. The 2007 victory over Oklahoma, featuring the famous hook-and-lateral and Statue of Liberty play, is widely regarded as one of the greatest bowl games in college football history.

  Boise State has produced many memorable players and coaches. Legendary head coach Chris Petersen led the Broncos to both undefeated seasons and both Fiesta Bowl victories, while quarterbacks Kellen Moore and Ryan Dinwiddie became important figures in the program's rise to national prominence. McMillan was an All-American quarterback who played for the Broncos from 1971 through 1974 and remains one of the most important players in the early history of Boise State football.   PAC12 Colorado Buffaloes

  The Colorado Buffaloes represent the University of Colorado Boulder and are one of the most recognizable college football programs in the American West. Colorado football dates back more than a century, with the program building a proud tradition around its black and gold colors, Folsom Field, and the famous live buffalo mascot Ralphie. Over the decades, the Buffaloes have competed in the Big Eight, Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences, and returned to the Big 12 beginning in 2024.

  The greatest championship achievement in Colorado football history came in 1990, when the Buffaloes finished 11-1-1, won the Big Eight Championship, defeated Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl, and were recognized as the national champion by the Associated Press and USA Today/CNN. The program has also produced numerous conference championships, major bowl victories and nationally ranked teams, including the outstanding 1989, 1990, 1994 and 2016 squads.

  Colorado has produced many legendary players. Byron “Whizzer” White became the school's first All-American and later served as a Justice of the United States Supreme Court. The 1990 championship era featured stars such as Eric Bieniemy, Alfred Williams, Darian Hagan, Shannon Sharpe and many others. In 1994, running back Rashaan Salaam won Colorado's first Heisman Trophy after rushing for 2,055 yards. Later generations produced NFL stars such as Michael Westbrook, Chris Brown, Matt Lepsis, Michael Huff and Jimmy Smith.

  The modern era has brought another generation of nationally recognized Buffaloes. Under head coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, Colorado returned to the national spotlight, with stars including quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way sensation Travis Hunter. Hunter became the program's second Heisman Trophy winner in 2024 and one of the most decorated players in college football history, while Shedeur Sanders broke more than 100 school records during his two seasons in Boulder.

  Colorado has officially retired six football jersey numbers: #24 Byron “Whizzer” White, #67 Joe Romig, #11 Bobby Anderson, #19 Rashaan Salaam, #12 Travis Hunter, and #2 Shedeur Sanders. Hunter and Sanders had their numbers retired together at Colorado's 2025 spring game, making their jerseys part of the permanent history of the program.   Wyoming Cowboys football

  The Wyoming Cowboys represent the University of Wyoming in Laramie and are one of the historic football programs of the American West. Wyoming football dates back to 1893, giving the Cowboys more than a century of gridiron tradition. Known to fans as the Cowboys or Pokes, Wyoming has built its identity around toughness, tradition, and the unique character of college football played in the high plains of Laramie.

  Wyoming has captured numerous conference championships throughout its history, including titles in the Skyline Conference and Western Athletic Conference. The program enjoyed especially successful periods during the 1950s and 1960s, as well as several outstanding WAC teams in later decades. The Cowboys also have a long bowl tradition, with memorable postseason appearances helping establish Wyoming as one of the most respected college football programs in the Mountain West.

  Wyoming football has produced many memorable players. Josh Allen is perhaps the most famous modern Cowboy, developing into a star quarterback at Wyoming before becoming an NFL MVP. Other notable Cowboys include Brian Hill, Devin Moore, Ryan McKnight, Jay Novacek and wide receiver Marcus Harris, who won the Biletnikoff Award in 1996. Wyoming's history also includes outstanding players from much earlier eras, many of whom remain important figures in the tradition of Cowboy football.

  The 1996 Wyoming Cowboys are one of the most memorable teams in program history. Led by quarterback Josh Wallwork and Biletnikoff Award-winning wide receiver Marcus Harris, the Cowboys finished 10-2, won the WAC Pacific Division, reached the inaugural WAC Championship Game, and finished No. 22 in the final Associated Press poll. Three decades later, the 1996 team was inducted into the University of Wyoming Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in 2026.

  Wyoming officially retired #17 Josh Allen on November 22, 2025, making him the first Wyoming Cowboy football player to have his jersey retired. Allen's number now represents one of the most important modern chapters in Wyoming football history. The University of Wyoming Athletics Hall of Fame also preserves the careers of many other outstanding Cowboys, coaches and teams from throughout the program's long history.
