Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars began play in 1995 as an expansion franchise and have proudly carried the Jaguars name throughout their history. Although one of the NFL's younger franchises, Jacksonville quickly developed a distinctive identity and produced several memorable playoff teams, particularly during the late 1990s. The Jaguars have won multiple AFC South division titles and reached the AFC Championship Game three times, following the 1996, 1999 and 2017 seasons.
The Jaguars came remarkably close to reaching the Super Bowl during their early years. In both 1996 and 1999, Jacksonville advanced to the AFC Championship Game during the franchise's first great era. The 1999 team went 14-2 in the regular season and won the AFC Central before falling one game short of the Super Bowl. The Jaguars returned to the AFC Championship Game in 2017 after one of the strongest defensive seasons in franchise history.
Jacksonville's history is filled with players who became synonymous with the Jaguars uniform. Quarterback Mark Brunell, running back Fred Taylor, wide receiver Jimmy Smith, and offensive tackle Tony Boselli formed the core of the franchise's first golden era. Defensive stars such as Paul Posluszny, John Henderson, Marcus Stroud and Telvin Smith also helped define important periods of Jaguars football. More recent generations have featured stars such as Trevor Lawrence and other players who have helped shape the modern franchise.
The Jaguars have officially retired #71 Tony Boselli, the first player ever selected in franchise history and one of the most dominant offensive tackles of his era. Boselli was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Other legendary Jaguars are honored through the Pride of the Jaguars, which recognizes figures who have made an especially significant contribution to the history of the franchise.
