Houston Texans

The Houston Texans were awarded an NFL expansion franchise in 1999, officially named in 2000, and began play in 2002. The franchise was created to bring professional football back to Houston after the former Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee. The Texans are a separate franchise from the Oilers, with their own history, records and identity, and they have proudly carried the Houston Texans name since their first season.

As one of the NFL's youngest franchises, the Texans have already built a memorable history. Houston has won multiple AFC South division championships and made numerous playoff appearances, establishing itself as one of the league's most competitive young teams. The Texans have not yet won an AFC Championship or Super Bowl, but their history has continued to grow through several different eras, from their expansion beginnings to the successful teams of the 2010s and the new generation of stars in the 2020s.

Some of the most important names in Texans history include Andre Johnson, one of the greatest wide receivers of his generation, and defensive superstar J.J. Watt, a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Andre Johnson was the first player inducted into the Texans Ring of Honor, and J.J. Watt later became another iconic member of that group. The Ring of Honor recognizes individuals who have made an especially important contribution to the success and history of the organization.
